This video
fits the aspects of dubstep very well. There is explosions, kids dressed up
like tiny gangsters and lots of fast moving shots and fast editing. The video
shows kids with bandannas around their faces as the truck nears. This was to
gather tension as the lead up to the drop in the song gets closer. The lyrics
to the song, “Shouts to all my Lost Boys, we rowdy “ plays on loop in the
background and is effective to the message the video is trying to portray. A little
catch I found with the video is the connection with peter pan. The term Lost
Boys were the little misfit kids who never grow up, and at the end of the video
we see the ice-cream man with a hook instead of a hand after it had been
chopped of in the first heist by one of the boys. The boys use explosives to
stop the ice cream van. This is a reflection on the fast violent sound related
to dubstep.
After they
eat the ice cream, one of the boys shadows gets larger this is to portray them
growing up. This creates a sense of tension as the music video has now taken a
huge turn of events. We then find the grown up boys now robbing a armed van
with rocket launchers and guns. This ups the intensity of the video as well as
the intensity of the song. There are more explosions and more action which
creates a sense of excitement towards the viewer. The editing of the video is
in sync with the music very nicely. When the boy fires a small explosive at the
ice cream van driver and it explodes, the drop to the song happens at the same
time. This is then replicated with the rocket launcher and the armed van when
the boys are grown up. Some of the shots of the heist are slowed down to create
more tension such as in a way which I will be using in my video.
The hole concept
of a ice cream van being robbed by kids is very out of the blue. Its something new
that u would expect to see. This is one of the reasons why this video is especially
good. After looking at this video in detail I have gathered ideas as to how I will
approach my video when the time comes to make it. I will be looking at quick
editing and slow motion, as well as the synchronization of the music with the
action shots.
